Addresses are a fundamental component of daily life and business – but they can be a real pain to deal with due to the wide variety of local standards. This can result in poor user experiences, delays in delivery or shipping and expensive customer support issues. Google’s new Address Validation API is a tool that promises to help you with this pain point by identifying and correcting errors in addresses. It can parse and structure an address into its components, identify and fix typos and abbreviations, validate, standardize and enrich an address with information like plus codes or place identifiers. The problem is that while it does have some useful features, the main downsides are its clunky bulk processing and limitations. It isn’t as fast as competitors, and it only offers a very basic level of validation. A true address validation solution will do all of the above plus provide a more accurate and meaningful result – and it can be done in near-real time for high-volumes of addresses. It will also work across different languages and be able to detect misspellings, duplications and other anomalies that are common in addresses. Currently, there are a few popular address verification solutions in the market that offer this: USPS EasyPost and Experian, Lob and Loqate. These offer a range of solutions to validate, verify, standardize, cleanse and geocode address data – including US, UK and international addresses. They will also identify residential and commercial deliveries.
